## Company History
DeStore did not pivot to DPPs because of ESPR. This infrastructure was being built four years earlier.

### 2021 — PolkaRock
Founded by Josiah Kotzur, an opal miner from Yowah, Southwest Queensland. Original concept: give physical opals a permanent digital identity using blockchain. One of the first projects globally to anchor real-world assets to permanent records on Polkadot using the RMRK standard. Built on Darwinia Network, indexed by SubQuery.

### 2022 — MetaRock
Renamed to MetaRock. Broadened thesis: every physical product deserves a permanent, portable provenance record. Partnered with Laava Smart Fingerprint for cryptographic product authentication. Partnered with SubQuery for data indexing. Partnered with Future Fulfilment and ShipHero for logistics.

### 2022 — Discovery Channel
The Discovery Channel captured DeStore's first live sale — an Australian opal with a permanent on-chain provenance record sold on international television. First public proof: a physical product's full story can be permanently attached, verified, and transferred.

### 2022 — Sony × Astar Innovation Incubator
Selected for Sony's innovation incubator, run in partnership with Astar Network. DeStore gave a Sony speaker a permanent provenance record — one of the first major consumer electronics brands to anchor a physical product to a tamper-evident public ledger. This shipped.

### 2022 — Polkadot Ecosystem
Accepted into Astar Network's Build2Earn program. Applied for Web3 Foundation grants. Built within the Kusama ecosystem. Worked alongside projects backed by Gavin Wood and the Web3 Foundation.

### 2022 — Rebranded to DeStore Network
Metarock Pty Ltd rebranded as DeStore Network — decentralised commerce infrastructure for any brand, any product, any channel.

### 2023 — DPP Pioneer
Published "The Digital Product Passport: Shaping Tomorrow's Standards" (March 2023) — one of the earliest plain-language DPP framework documents, before ESPR became law. Subject matter experts on DPP standards before regulation existed.

### 2024 — Infrastructure Rebuild for ESPR
Rebuilt DeStore from the ground up targeting the EU's July 2027 ESPR deadline. Migrated from Polkadot to Base (Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2). Integrated GS1 Digital Link as the primary QR standard. Built AI-powered catalogue migration tool.

### 2026 — Current
Australia's dedicated GS1 Digital Link and DPP issuance platform. Actively onboarding brands in apparel, footwear, skincare, homewares, and electronics. Every product receives a unique GS1 Digital Link QR code, DPP record anchored to Ethereum mainnet, and Laava authentication.
